Timeless

(Book 5 of The Parasol Protectorate)

By Gail Carriger

Paranormal romance in a Victorian steampunk age

Paperback, 416 pages

Published by Orbit
Released March 2nd, 2012

My Summary:
One would think parenthood would be no problem for a woman as resourceful as Alexia Maccon. However, when your husband is a werewolf, your daughter is a soul-stealer, and you’re living in a vampire’s third best closet, things are never easy.
A mysterious summons from the queen of the Egyptian hive throws their whole world into a tizzy as the Maccons, accompanied by Ivy Ttunstell and her acting troupe descend upon the North African country. What they find traces back to the interfering nature of Alexia’s late father… and could tear the paranormal balance of the world in twain.
My Review:
As an ending, this novel wraps things up well, without making it impossible for continuation. The state in which Ms. Carriger leaves her world is not one that will disappoint her brood of fans. It is a fond farewell to characters that five books have helped mold into realistic beings and created unreal adventures within a very real world.

As always, Ms. Carriger has managed to create a novel rich in prose and full of vibrant characters. The settings are real enough and the surreal elements blended in so accurately that one almost forgets this was not the way of things. The over-the-top characters exhibited in Lord Akeldama – hereto ever after known simply as Dama – and Ivy manage to be written well enough that their ostentatious presence is not cloying.
Buy, Borrow, Brush past:
Buy! This novel, is a beautiful end to a stunning series. It and the rest of the series are too good to not own and read over and over again.
